While installing a WLAN device one has to remember than it has different capacity for the different levels of requirement. It is also important to knowapart from the devices to be installed, how much traffic it might generate.

Site Survey

Once the onlinerequirements are understood, what comes next is a site survey. A site survey deploys a few APs in key areas of a client’s site and tests the signal strength of it around the area. This surveyis done with installing a survey software in a laptop or any mobile device and walking withit around the site, to point the places, where the signal strength is powerful or falling weak.

Even though Site surveys are pretty expensive, setting up the coverage area isn’t a big dealwhile installing wireless LAN for businesses.

Identifying the Best Access Points

Once you have a sense of where to put access points, the installation itself is fairly straightforward for an engineer trained for the hardware, Brandenburg said. But after you deploy the access points, it’s important to revisit the site survey to make sure the APs are covering real usage, which can be hard to accurately predict. Planning a business wireless LAN is only about 90% accurate, he said, so you should assume you’ll need a few more APs than your calculations suggest. It’s a good idea to buy about 20% more APs than you anticipate needing, Mathias said.

Compatibility Test

Another factor that should not be ignored is the compatibility with the overall infrastructure of a business. For instance, if there is an existing wired LAN it should be taken into account the vendors with whom you have already worked with.Thus hardware componentslike switches and other network hardware, should be selected as per those configurations.

Maintenance Software

After the completion of the above-said steps, what comes next is selecting a relevant and reliable maintenance software. Every WLAN connection would require an ongoing maintenance and configuration which would finally decide the major running cost of a wireless LAN for businesses, so it is important to see that the vendor’s tools are correctly meetingthe various online requirement of the client. One must remember that WLAN management tools are different from that of a standard LAN, so an instalment of WLAN in a business should consider all these factors.
